Foster carer roles and responsibilities

We have listened to the needs of foster carers, supervising social workers and service. It is imperative there are flexible learning pathways that reflect the differing roles and responsibilities for foster carers. 

The first 12 months for a new foster carer will ensure there is a foundation to build from. This includes Skills to Foster and statutory learning, including completing the training, support and development (TSD) standards workbook.

Role Specific Learning Pathways

Below (in alphabetic order) is learning and development opportunities to support the roles and responsibilities. It is not a definite list as each individual/family is unique and requires the individual circumstances to be taken into account, e.g. considering a foster carer who spans over two roles listed below. The Learning and Development Offer can be used to support a learning and development plan.
